‘I wanted to get excited about something, like high heels’

Sabrina (centre, in polka dot dress and orange heels)

I didn’t want to do a postgraduate degree. I didn’t want to stay at university forever.

I wanted to be like everyone else, joining the graduate flock to employment in London. But I had to learn a tough lesson – I’m not everyone else.

I’m Sabrina Johnson, the Leeds Met black girl into high heels (not the porn star).

I left a well paid job to study MA Public Relations. Nobody got excited where I worked and I wanted to get excited. I could see the changing face of communication online and public relations was at the centre of it all. I wanted to be there getting excited about something, like high heels.

I came to study at Leeds Metropolitan University because it was in the city of Leeds and had the best PR courses in England. Better still, I am now student with a purpose.

Network – know all the right people, in the right places and talk about exciting heels.

My degree is teaching me how to beat the competition; I’m different and that’s what makes me attractive. I get excited about high heels, so I network through shoes, possibly into a job: sabrinasuggests.tumblr.com
